Overview

A bodyweight dip performed upright on parallel bars. Keeping your torso vertical shifts the work to the triceps.

How to do it

  1. Grip the parallel bars and press up to straight arms.

  2. Keep your torso upright and your elbows pointing back.

  3. Bend your elbows to lower yourself until your upper arms are about parallel to the floor.

  4. Keep your shoulders down and away from your ears.

  5. Press back up until your arms are straight.

Tips

  • Use an assisted machine or a band to build up to full reps.
  • Keep your legs still to avoid swinging.

Common mistakes

  • Leaning far forward, which shifts the work to your chest.
  • Dropping too low and letting your shoulders roll forward.
  • Flaring your elbows out to the sides.
