Preacher Curl (Barbell)

Primary muscle
Biceps
Equipment
Barbell

Overview

A curl performed with your upper arms resting on an angled pad. The pad stops your body from helping, isolating the biceps.

How to do it

  1. Adjust the seat so your armpits rest on the top of the pad.

  2. Grip the bar with an underhand grip about shoulder width apart.

  3. Rest the backs of your upper arms flat on the pad.

  4. Curl the bar up until your forearms are nearly vertical.

  5. Lower slowly until your arms are almost straight.

Tips

  • Control the bottom of each rep, where the biceps are most stretched.
  • Use an EZ bar for a more comfortable wrist position.

Common mistakes

  • Dropping the bar quickly into fully straight arms.
  • Lifting your elbows off the pad.
  • Leaning back to help the curl.
