- Machine
Overview
A seated machine exercise that isolates the quadriceps by straightening your knees against resistance.
How to do it
Adjust the backrest so your knees line up with the machine's pivot point.
Set the ankle pad on the front of your lower shins, just above your feet.
Hold the side handles and sit back against the pad.
Straighten your legs until your knees are fully extended.
Squeeze your quadriceps briefly, then lower the pad slowly.
Tips
- Keep your hips pressed into the seat throughout the set.
- Lower slowly to make the set harder without adding weight.
Common mistakes
- Kicking the weight up with momentum.
- Lifting your hips off the seat at the top.
- Letting the weight stack drop between reps.
