Overview

A cable pushdown with a rope that isolates the triceps. Spreading the rope at the bottom gives a strong contraction.

How to do it

  1. Attach a rope to a high pulley and grab both ends, palms facing each other.

  2. Stand tall with a slight forward lean and your elbows at your sides.

  3. Push the rope down by straightening your elbows.

  4. Spread the rope ends apart at the bottom and squeeze your triceps.

  5. Let the rope rise slowly until your forearms are just above parallel.

Tips

  • Keep your upper arms still so only your forearms move.
  • Keep your wrists straight.

Common mistakes

  • Letting your elbows flare out or drift forward.
  • Leaning over the rope and using your body weight.
  • Cutting the rep short before your arms are straight.
