Overview

A cable pushdown with a straight or angled bar that isolates the triceps. It is easy to learn and simple to load progressively.

How to do it

  1. Attach a bar to a high pulley and grip it overhand at about shoulder width.

  2. Stand tall with your elbows tucked at your sides.

  3. Push the bar down until your arms are fully straight.

  4. Squeeze your triceps at the bottom.

  5. Return slowly until your forearms are just above parallel to the floor.

Tips

  • Keep your shoulders down and your chest up.
  • Use a V-bar or EZ bar if a straight bar feels uncomfortable on your wrists.

Common mistakes

  • Letting your elbows move away from your sides.
  • Using your shoulders and body weight to push the bar.
  • Letting the bar rise above your chest.
