- Primary muscle
- Upper back
- Equipment
- Cable
Overview
A seated cable row with a close, neutral grip that trains the upper back, lats and biceps. The cable keeps tension on your back through the whole range.
How to do it
Attach a V-grip handle and sit with your feet on the platform, knees slightly bent.
Grab the handle and sit tall with your arms extended and back straight.
Pull the handle toward your lower ribs, keeping your elbows close to your sides.
Squeeze your shoulder blades together at the end of the pull.
Extend your arms slowly, letting your shoulders reach forward without rounding your back.
Tips
- Keep your torso nearly upright; a small lean is fine, but do not swing.
- Pull with your elbows rather than your hands.
Common mistakes
- Rocking back and forth to move the weight.
- Rounding your lower back at the front of the movement.
- Shrugging your shoulders toward your ears as you pull.
