Overview

A standing cable fly that keeps tension on the chest from start to finish. Changing the pulley height lets you emphasise different areas of the chest.

How to do it

  1. Set both pulleys at shoulder height or above and take a handle in each hand.

  2. Step forward into a staggered stance with a slight forward lean.

  3. Start with your arms open wide and elbows slightly bent, feeling a stretch in your chest.

  4. Bring the handles together in a wide arc in front of your lower chest.

  5. Squeeze your chest for a moment, then let your arms open slowly under control.

Tips

  • Keep the slight bend in your elbows fixed during every rep.
  • Keep your chest up and shoulders down rather than hunching forward.
  • Cross your hands slightly at the end for a stronger contraction.

Common mistakes

  • Pulling with your arms and bending your elbows like a press.
  • Letting the cables pull your arms too far behind your body.
  • Rocking your torso to move the weight.
